Night out in a new jacket and waistcoat.

Part of my Christmas haul this year included a contemporary styled jacket and waistcoat (no epaulettes, no cuffs or fancy buttons) made from 16oz Cheviot tweed (Marton Mills) in "mocha reeve", a sort of reddy-brown colour. I chose it myself although it was officially gifted by lovely wifey.

It's a very solidly made set, made to order (4-6 week lead time) from a stock range of standard UK sizes so it's not made to measure as such, but it is manufactured in Scotland from British materials and is supplied by Heritage of Scotland. I realise some have issues with this company but to be honest, I've bought a fair bit of kilt related stuff from them and had nothing but good quality and exceptional service. Certainly more customer focused than a few other outlets anyway.

    A picture would probably help.

My kilt is Australian Tartan, my eldest son is in German Heritage.

A couple of dapper looking gentlemen. That tweed jacket and waistcoat are indeed very nice! Congratulations to you and your son.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Nice one, EB! The jacket looks like it fits you well, and I'm always happy to see an ABF tie

Notwithstanding the advertising copy of Highlandwear retail/rental companies, I think that "contemporary" might not be the most accurate description of the style... to my eye it looks rather traditional! Unadorned tweed kilt jackets have been around for ages, as seen in the Highlanders of Scotland paintings (examples below). Not that there is anything wrong with either old or new styles, but rather that it is a common misconception that this is a recent innovation

Personally, I really like your jacket and waistcoat set. If you want something more contemporary, maybe next Christmas you could get something in a different material (like leather) or with a different cut (like an Iona jacket with stand-up collar):

Smashing! I love the tweed and color. I am a fan, also, of the plain cut. Classic and nice!
