Nor Cal "Try the Caber" Day
What a great day! Twenty X-Markers and friends came to Stanford to try caber, toss stones, and cheer, while also enjoying a great barbeque and good friendship. Put your pics here, and bunchdescendent will have a video at some point, he has about 100 minutes of footage.
For now, some results to be proud of!

Light hammer....everybody threw 14 pounds, more or less we'd had too much beer and fun to keep accurate records by this point!
Josh L. high 60's
Kilted Surveyor High 50's
Alan H. 79' 9"
Charlie R. 72 and change
Elissa about 30
the FHCAG approx. 20
way2fractious low 50's
16 pound sheaf I don't have standards that go high enough for this so the question was....did you clear the branch of the oak tree at 16 feet, if so, by how much?
Josh L...cleared it, couple of feet
Alan H ...cleared it, probably toss around 23-25 feet
Charlie R...cleared it, several feet
The FCHAG... looked really sexy but didn't clear it.
Elissa...looked really sweet but didn't clear it.
Way2Fractious... cleared it, just barely, but he cleared it!
Caber We have three cabers.. THE NOOB...11' 8" and about 45 pounds, THE LASSIE 15 feet and about 50 pounds and THE CARDINAL, a monster at 15 feet and about 90 pounds
Josh L.. passed on the NOOB turned the LASSIE, probably about an 60 deg on the CARDINAL
Alan H...passed on the NOOB, 12:00 on the LASSIE, about a 75 degree on the CARDINAL
Charlie R....turned the LASSIE 12:00 with ONE HAND (had a beer in the other) and after trying about 30 times actually turned the CARDINAL!
Farlander... I don't remember! I think he turned the NOOB and got stuck on trying to pick the LASSIE.
Kilted Surveyer....12:00 on the NOOB, 12:00 on the LASSIE, about a 60 deg on the CARDINAL (after about a dozen shots at it! )
Way2Fractious....12:00 on the NOOB, 12:00 on the LASSIE, picked up the CARDINAL and said "you guys are crazy!".. a wise man, way2fractious!
Elissa: picked the NOOB with some help, got about a 45 degree on it
the FHCAG: picked the NOOB with some help got about a 30 degree on it.
Weight over the Bar 28 or 42 lbs
Josh L...12' 6" or thereabouts (42'er)
Alan H ...12' 6" more or less (42'er) ..Note: cleared 11' 6" with the spin, wow!
Charlie R...12' ..with the spin, no less!!! (42'er)..also cleared 12 with standing throw
Kilted Surveyor... 10 ' (42'er)
Farlander... 9' (42'er)
The FCHAG... was seriously distracted by daughters preoccupation with a gopher, but cleared 7" with the 28'er
Elissa... cleared 8 feet with the 28'er
Way2Fractious... cleared 11 with the 28'er
shy little Bethany Owen...cleared 12"6 with the classic technique, got 11 with the spin

It was a GREAT day! Thanks to bunchdescendent for filming everything...Mrs. Kilted Surveyor for a zillion pictures and writing down scores, to Kilted Surveyor for the barbeque, to bunchdescendent and the amazing Chris for the tent, to Mrs. Farlander for sparing her husband for the day AND sending cornbread...to Panache for letting us beat up on the FHCAG all day, and Denpat55 for bringing a whole cheering section.
The Barbeque was great...tri-tip, veggies, a really cool salad from Bethany Owen, with "rose tomatoes", pumpkin pie...LOTS of great stuff.
What a day...I had a *blast* Pics to come, I'm sure!

Hi Alan,
I'm sorry I couldn't make it. A friend needed help with a thesis presentation. Glad the cornbread went down easily.
I was hoping you'd send Mike home unbroken. I should've known that wouldn't work out. Still, the ankle didn't look too bad...

A Truck?
Truly a spectacular day! Thanks to all for the great laughs, food and schooling However, did anyone get the number of that truck that ran me over...because the way I feel today, I had to have been hit by a truck!

Charlie, Josh & myself.

So, does anyone have any tips on getting caber splinters out of the palm of one's hand?
I woke up yesterday morning and thought, "hey, I don't feel all that bad!"
Then last night had dance class until 10:00.
Today, I feel like I wish someone had gotten the license plate on that truck, so I can sue for "personal damages"

Be well,
Star
