One Reason to Visit Scotland
Just thought I would post this. Some of you may have seen it over a year ago now but I have revisited the original picture as I am never satisfied with what I have done.
This is Glenfinnan, the site of the Jacobite rising where Bonnie Prince Charlie raised his standard to signify the start of the rebellion. A wonderfully evocative and awe inspiring place. If you ever get to Scotland be sure to make this a destination on your list of go to places, especially if you are thinking of coming over in 2014.

Super picture Simon, I went past there today and there was a sprinkling of snow on the high-tops. As an added bonus, if the camera was turned around 180 degrees there is a super view of the Glenfinnan(Harry Potter) railway viaduct. Yes indeed a place to visit although the "visitor centre" is a tad disappointing and is no match for the views.

Yes I agree Jock the visitor centre is a tad underwhelming although the coffee shop is a welcome stopping point. The view from here is spectacular though in both directions, looking down the loch or 180 degrees looking over the Glenfinnan viaduct. Worth far more than the 15-20 minutes that the tourist coaches stop for. Its definitely a place that you need to stay and soak up the atmosphere.

The Glenfinnan Hotel( just off the picture on the right) is much improved these days, so it is worth a visit. I have spent many a happy hour(days!) out on the loch after a sea trout and the occasional salmon.
I cannot remember how long the loch(Shiel)is, but its long and there is a ferry, based at Glenfinnan, that trundles from one end to the other and back and would provide stunning views for anyone with a day to spare afloat. I cannot speak of catering facilities on board these days, but best take a packed lunch.

Great pics Simon, indeed Glenfinnan is a must see destination while in Scotland. You ought to be paid commission by Visit Scotland.

Thanks Alex, there was a house for sale in Glenfinnan recently at quite a decent price too. How I would love to wake up every morning with that view. But with all the fantastic scenery in Scotland choosing just one place would be so difficult. This view has to be one of my favourites though.

Jock I cant tell you how much I appreciate your suffering on our behalf. It is a marvel how you bear it with such fortitude and dedication. I would still swap you all the salmon in the Test for a nice little bungalow on the Loch side.

The trick is to have a few salmon swim past the door from time to time, then missing Nurselings is not so painful!
