Pennsylvainia Tartan in the Wind - North Rim of the Grand Canyon... and a Story.

At Point Imperial. Road trip with my lady today. She's from Pennsylvania so wore the tartan in her honor.

The North Rim just opened for the season two days ago so thought we might beat the tourist rush....wrong...

But it was a great day trip and she'd never been to the North Rim.

This is a statue of Brighty the Burro in the Grand Canyon Lodge. You're supposed to rub his nose for good luck.

Here's the story. When we arrived at Point Imperial we parked next to a car with Pennsylvania Plates and a Pittsburgh license plate holder. My lady wanted to wait and meet whoever it was. A couple about our age showed up a few minutes later and she had a great time chatting with them. She pointed out I was wearing the Pennsylvania tartan. A routine brief interlude.

Then we hiked out to the point to see the view and take some pics. Coming back we went to the rest room. On the way back to the car we spotted some keys laying on the curb. Not car keys - but important keys from the fancy type they were...the key fob was from a division of Blue Cross. We hung around and talked to every one an no one had lost their keys so we decided to turn them in at the Ranger Station. While we're driving my lady said that Pittsburgh was a Blue Cross headquarters town and she bet that the couple we'd chatted with had lost them. But they were long gone.

On the way to the North Rim Ranger Station I took a wrong turn at the "Y" and wound up heading out to Roosevelt Point without realizing it until we got there. Oops, I'm on the wrong road. So turned around and headed back. As we passed Roosevelt Point again there was the Pittsburgh couple just hiking up from the trail. We pulled in and asked if they lost an keys. He said he had. She showed them to him and he broke out in smiles and gratitude. What are the odds that we would find his keys...that my lady would want to chat them up...that she'd know Pittsburgh was a Blue Cross town, and that my wrong turn would take us back to the couple? Spooky kinda....

That's a grand story Ron, and thanks for sharing it. Those events were meant to happen perhaps. Interested to hear where it might lead, in the fullness of time. And for once the scenery may have been surpassed by the story.

Has your lady friend become camera-shy? Seems not so long ago we saw pictures of a couple of happy dancers... All the best to you both, anyway.

Naw, we just seem to take pics of each other and don't seem to remember to ask others for a couple's pic....

Great story Ron, I was afraid from the title it might be another "watch me fall off the North Rim" type tale!
