    photo from Irishfest

    Hi all,

Here is a belated report and photo from Milwaukee's Irishfest, which was held last weekend. On Saturday we drove up from the Chicago area to Milwaukee for the day (around 1.5 hrs.) It was the coldest day we've seen so far this summer, and it also rained off and on all day. No problem for me, as I have the right clothes to be out in the rain all day (and wearing a wool kilt helps too), but it was a bit tough on my family and a lot of the rest of the crowd as well.

We arrived at noon, when it opened, then ate and did family stuff for a while. Then I went off to see the Tossers -- very good show there. Then we sort of hung out at the Celtic Roots tent where those who cared about the weather could sit under the tent. Photo is of me and my daughter dancing to one of the reels or jigs played by Aoife Clancy and her band. You can see that my daughter is wearing an extra jacket I brought, as well as a fleece headband that I always keep packed in my field jacket. Was glad I had that, as she was cold. In the background are the flags they had up on the tent for all of the modern Celtic nations.

After that we gave in to the weather and left early. So we missed the evening lineup of bands. Something to do next year...

If anyone is in the area, we're planning to go to the Chicago Celtic Fest next month too.

Wow, it's still that cold up there!? If you have a few breezes you're not using, just send them down this way.

Is that a Fraser tartan or is my monitor off color? Great to see those Fraser colors!

It was a really oddly cold day. High temp was probably only around 65 F, and it felt colder because it was wet and breezy. Around here we are still having days in the 90's, but this time of year we get the occasional cool day. Milwaukee is cooler, and particularly at the lakefront where they have the festival grounds. That's one of the things that makes it so nice to go there. But still that normally means maybe 75-80, not low 60's. I think it felt really cold to a lot of people because of the extreme temperature contrast that day.

And yes, that is the Fraser tartan.

Hey CactusJack, my wife and I grew up in St. Louis, so we know what the weather's like there all too well. People here complain about the heat in the summer, but they have no idea how bad it can really get. It can be hot here, occasionally, but it's always interspersed with cool days. The winter is a completely different story though...

And yes, Irishfest was a lot of fun. The musical lineups are incredible. This was our first time going up there, but we'll definitely be going back.

Sure looks like a Frazier tartan to me too. Good on ya cousin for showin' the colors if we be right.
