Photos from the 2015 Asilomar Weekend

Though I have been doing Scottish Country Dancing for a decade I haven't attended one of the biggest functions the San Francisco Branch of the RSCDS puts on each year, that being the Asilomar Dance Weekend. Held at the Asilomar conference center in beautiful Pebble Beach, it is a weekend of classes, dances, food, music, and fantastic people. There is a Friday night dance and a Saturday night ball. The event usually happens at the end of October/beginning of November so if one has children you have to choose between Halloween with the family or going to the event. Happily this year it was held a week later and my Flame-Haired Celtic Amazon Goddess and I were able to go.

Here are a few photos from the weekend

(I have no actual photos from the dance because the program was so fun I danced all of them!)

    Off to classes Saturday morning

Adding to the pastoral feel of the pine trees were these frequently spied ladies who wandered between the various buildings of the conference center.

    After the ball

Here is a splendid photo of two wonderful gents from the Gay Gordons who came all the way from London to attend the Asilomar weekend and a terrible photo of a very bedraggled looking Panache (giving you some idea about how vigorous a men's set for the Reel of the 51st Division is)

Sunday morning there was a last combined dance class in the Ballroom but after two days of dancing Star and I decided a gentle walk along the beach under the stormy skies were more in line with our current physical abilities (those highcuts are a killer!)

It was a fantastic weekend and I would recommend it to any of our Scottish Country Dancing X Markers!

    Cheers

    Jamie

Super pics Jamie and looks like you had lots of fun.
My previous SCD partner died and my new wife isn't into SCD. I miss the exercise and the social side. Enjoy while you can.

Great pictures Jamie! My wife has never liked dancing so it is not an activity I am likely to take up, but I certainly enjoy watching others.

I know that area all too well. I see to live right off Asilomar. We miss it. With any luck we will be returning next year.

Wonderful pictures. Looks like a great time was had.
