piping at Fort MacArthur 2015
This weekend is Old Fort MacArthur Days, a gathering of vintage vehicles (mostly military), re-enactors, history organisations, etc.
The fort is right on the Pacific coast, with clear views of Catalina Island on a clear day like today.
It's mostly a WWII thing so I wore my Black Watch kit with a WWII-ish shirt.
This woman asked is she could take her photo with me, here it is. She was part of a group playing Old-Time Music.

Yours truly with the ocean and Catalina Island in the background.

The eagle-eyed will spot at least one thing not right about my uniform. My bad, I was a bit forgetful when I got dressed.

The only thing I see wrong with you kit is the orange wrist band. I find those things pull the hair off my arm. I can't imagine how much fur you lost while playing your pipes.
Any minute error (other than mentioned above) would require more coffee and eye drops for me this morning. I know your presence was appreciated at the event.

Hmmmm.
Yes, I thought though that the orange wrist band might be necessary for the duration.
Maybe it's that the left and right tassels on the sporran don't appear to hang evenly.
Looks like a lovely day anyway, and is that an Australian gum tree over your right shoulder?

Sorry I don't know my trees!
Yes the wristband was required, and my sporran needs attention. I've been storing it laying in a box, I need to hang it so it's nice and even.
What I was referring to was the fact that I'm wearing ribbons (rosettes) on my kilt, indicating the rank of Sergeant or Pipe Major, yet I'm not wearing a sash, or any rank insignia. In Shirtsleeve Order the rank would be displayed on a wristband.
As seen here, the Drum Major of the Argylls

OC Richard,
It does look like a very nice day. You're right, that is a stellar view of Catalina! Growing up in Altadena, the only time we got a clear view like that was after a Santa Ana came through. Your kit looks sharp too.

Looks like a fun event! I wish we had known about it. Next time you play locally let everyone know!

Thanks!
About my sporran being all ahoo, I'd not noticed when I put it on Saturday, and only saw the problem when I looked at these pics, but the little white rope that holds one of the upper two tassels was starting to come loose, so that tassel was drooping! It's sorted now (both the actual sporran, and the photos above).
