Re: Queen Mary scottish fest day 1
Some really good quality action pictures there. I like the rear shot (number 6 possibly). He wasn't just wearing a kilt, because he had to. He took the time to have his hose match the kilt. Excellent.
Good to see so many young people getting involved - clan tent and the bands.
The only query I have is this (it could be just the way I am looking). There seems to be a lack of pleats in the kilts the heavy athletes are wearing.
The looks on the faces in the juggler picture are an education in themselves.
Thanks for posting.
Regards
Chas

They must have moved the Queen Mary ship to a different place than where it was docked when I was a kid in Long beach. No trees or grass at that site.
Great picture of the juggler with the flaming torches!

Agreed Chas! I too am impressed with the quality of the photography.
As you see in photo #6, the fell appears to be pleated, so I think we are seeing the results of PV not holding pleats when stressed by the wonders physics.
Well done Grizzly, looks like you had some great weather to enjoy the day in. I know one Mr. H will be very happy to see these "Kilts in Action"

It's in the same place as always. There are a few patches of green but mostly asphalt. Were the athletics up past the bow of the ship, as in years before?

Maybe I am thinking of a different boat type thing-the Howard Hughes Galloping Goose plane was also docked close by the freeways so every time we drove by I'd see it.

There were/are a lot of young competitors. We had 20+ in our "C" class group, and many were well under 40 years old. I think the "200" class had nearly as many as well.
The lack of pleats is not an illusion. Most of us are wearing Sportkilts brand kilts, which are functional and comfortable, but not very traditional. Shallow pleats (and not many of them, elastic waistband and velcro closure, so they "move" with you during competition.
Trust me, I wouldn't be caught dead in one for a non-sporting event, but they do have their place in the kilting world!

MacMillan's son, were you there? I thought I saw a gent that could have been your twin, with two lovely ladies, watching the "C" class group all day.
