A sad day
Hello all I went to pipe at a funeral today it was alright, first time I had every done that, it was foir a custmer of mine who's father passed away and the family asked if i was able to pipe for them I agreeed to. I don't know how pipers do it at funerals becausre it is very emotional, after playing Amazing Grace i was asked to play Mull of Kintyr then to play Going Home all emotoinal tunes I did it but at the end I was a bit teary eyed, my wife took aa pic of me when I got back from the piping gig I'd like to share it, as it was an outfit I truely loved to wear.
I was offerd money to play but I sked it be given to a chaity of the familiues choice I play because I love to play.

MacHummel,
I am sadden to hear about your customer's father passing . I am no piper but, I can sympathize with you on the teary songs. I love listening to the pipes but, when its an emotional tune . . I feel it. I find myself wiping tears every now and then.
You look great in that outfit. Thank you for sharing the pic and, your story. I commend your contributory heart.

Pete,
Thanks for sharing your story. Life is sometimes sad, but sometimes saddness is not without beauty. I'm sure your playing meant a lot to the family and helped them know that.

I always struggle to find the right words in situations like this but Jamie found them for me.

Dear Mac Hummel,
I am touched by your kind sentiment in piping at the funeral.
The pipes can be so poignant and stirring, it is a wonderful and memorable way for a final send off to the dear departed.
Your are right good Man!
You'll never know how you have helped to give closer to that Family.
I only hope when my time comes, I should have a Piper like you.
Only three songs won't do!!
I'll need an hour of pipe tunes at least, to get to the other side.
My condolences to the family and Gods Blessing to the new Angel in heaven.
I tip my bonnet tae you.

Pete,
Good on you for offering the pipers fee to charity. The typing of your post says to me that the customer is both a customer and friend. A friend that will appreciate your talent and generosity for many years to come.
Well done
May the person be in heaven long before the devil knows hes gone.
Blessed be
Steve

Funerals
I do not charge either. However, I have recieved money after the service which I usually donate to the Animal shelters or Teen Safe Houses.
Funerals are definitely emotional on occasion...for some reason it makes me play better...

Sometimes the work world our customers become closer than just business. I know they appreciated you. I am not a piper, but I do relate to your relationship.
