Saffron for the Solstice
So, today's the Solstice...almost...and a full moon to boot. Decided to go soak up some of the beauty and spiritual energy of Lees Ferry (traditional around here that the apostrophe is left off, no clue why...just if you use one, the price goes up).
Lees Ferry is at the end of Glen Canyon and the start of Marble Canyon on the Colorado River. In the olden days was the only place to cross the Colorado River for hundreds of miles in either direction. Its a very pretty, very serene, very spiritual spot. There were two rafts outfitting for a down canyon trip at the launch ramp. Gonna be a cold trip for them.
Kilt is USA Kilts semi-traditional in saffron - lots of cold wind to tease the pleats today. Stillwater Kilts black leather nightstalker sporran, black Lewis hose from Scottish Tartans Museum.
As cold as the wind was while I was out hiking, only my ears seemed to get cold.

This is the Paria Riffle, not quite a rapids, but the first fast water rafters hit after launching from Lees Ferry.

This is looking back upriver to the end of Glen Canyon.

Looking up the Spencer Trail which climbs 1500' to the top of this cliff. The saffron is almost a camo kilt in these rocks.
A good day to watch the full moon rise bright and white over the red cliffs.

Don't bite anyone with that full moon up there and all, Ron.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

Those photos are amazing and you are right the Saffron is perfect for the surroundings, I wonder if it has anything to do with the solstice.

Black and tan work well together - and yet again a scenic masterpiece for your photo shoot.

Aye Jock,
Glen Canyon of the Colorado River is a mecca for trout fishermen. Lots of guides and lodging geared to trout fishing nearby.
Since the water started coming out of the base of the dam upstream its a lot colder and the native humpback chub are barely hanging in. Lots of controversy between the native fish supporters and the fly fishermen.
Glen Canyon is a beautiful venue for trout fishing.
