    scotsfest games 2015-5-23

Took my daughter down to costa mesa so she could do the games. Many friends and athletes were there and I had a good day taking pictures. Walked 18,737 steps that day.

I took over a thousand shots so this is just a sampling. I missed the last couple of events as my daughter got hit by the weight over bar. She is fine and the family had fun teasing her about the idea when something heavy is coming the best thing is to moveClick image for larger version.

It was great to see the whole clan again. Yeah, tell Heidi to practice MOVING... LOL

I shared your pics with Felicia Nicole. The one of her with open stone, with her levitating ponytail is the best. You got a mess of good ones of the Pro's, too...the one with Matt and the HWFD is a winner.

thanks. We enjoyed seeing you again. One of the big attractions of the games is the people involved. Yea we'll have to work with Heidi. At least she learned which is harder her head or 28 pounds of iron.

A week late with my pics! Turns out the cord that connects my camera to my computer went bad... I was wondering why the computer didn't recognize when the camera was plugged in.

Anyhow mine are (as usual) centered around the Pipe Bands. But here are a couple random kilties I saw (the kiltie on the right is wearing California tartan)

The Phoenix Pipe Band warming up (MacGregor tartan)

Mesa Caledonian from near Phoenix Arizona (ancient Bruce Of Kinnaird tartan)

Glendale Pipes & Drums also in the Phoenix area, not to be confused with the Glendale California in the Los Angeles area (Black Watch, the kilts pleated to the same line as the Argylls, but knifepleated like the Black Watch)

Irish Pipers Band of San Francisico (est 1932). A couple very fine vintage sets of pipes here! The Tonemeister is checking the tuning of a chanter; his dress is typical of pipe band people when not actually performing at the Games. (County Wexford tartan)

All the tuning is over! Now time to compete.

Glendora High School marching toward the Competition Circle (Royal Stewart tartan)

What a wonderful collection of talented youngsters. This the last competition for many of them: once they graduate they no longer can play in the band. The Competition Circle and grandstands can be seen.

The judges await, with their ominous clipboards. The middle tartan is MacDonald Of The Isles Hunting.

Prince Charles Pipe Band Grade Two from San Francisco marching into The Circle (Black Stewart tartan)

Here you can see the lovely pleating of the Black Stewart tartan kilts

Best Hair Of The Day: two members of the Pacific Coast Highlanders Pipe Band (hunting Thompson tartan) watch Mesa compete

Pasadena Scottish, with their lovely kilts (California tartan) all made by their Pipe Major, Jennifer Boase, and well showing their beautiful logo inspired by the work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh

A Band Of Their Own: as you can see the Pasadena Scottish appears to have a majority female membership

Kevin R Blandford Memorial Pipe Band. The Pipe Major, Matt Nonnemacher, and another of the leading pipers are serving police officers. (Roxburgh District tartan)

The Cameron Highlanders of San Diego and the magnificent whiskers of Richard King. One piper is "a tall drink of water" as they used to say (ancient Cameron of Erracht tartan)

Their focused drum corps. Their sporrans, by the way, were all made by their bass drummer, saddlemaker Billy Lang.

Wasatch & District "from within the shadows of The Everlasting Hills" (MacTavish tartan)

The Los Angeles Scottish Grade Four (they also have bands in Grade Three and Grade One) marches out of the Circle. The hard work is done! Time to grab a beer and listen to the other bands, or kick back in the Band Tent and rest your tired feet (muted Drummond Of Perth tartan)

I believe the gentleman on the left is XMarker Tomak. We've met at previous Games but missed bumping into each other at this event. He may be talking to another forum member , Calico and wife Jan, but don't quote me on that.
Proudly Duncan [maternal], MacDonald and MacDaniel [paternal].
