Scottish Country Dance Burns' Supper
We had our Burns' Supper dance class this past Monday (1/26). I'd had a hard day at work, so when I came home, I just decided to emulate my husband (never a bad choice, although maybe a bit lazy).
We have been practicing dances for the major ball in our area, the Valentine's Ball, and so our Burns' festivities had to wait until about 10 pm, but we managed to get a classmate to take our picture:

All the major points of a Burns' Supper were honored (except a toast to the Lassies, but that's understandable with me present )
Here, the haggis is piped in:

The Address to a Haggis:

The Selkirk Grace (I felt qualified after leading a rabble of children in this):

We had a wonderful haggis, and obviously amusing entertainment:

Because I hate to let a memorized piece go to waste, I recited "John Barleycorn", but the photos were, shall we say, unflattering, so none shall be posted.
We had to get home before our babysitter became impatient, so as a parting shot we sang:
"We know a man called Mr. Lang
And he owns a neon sign
Now Mr. Lang is very old
So we call it Old Lang's Sign!"
Be well,

Thanks for sharing the pictures of a happy time. Can I say that you have captured the traditional highland Scots style well. Not every event calls for full formal kilt attire and the smart but low key dress(attire) is much more like the Highlands. Well done!

Excellent pics, looks like a great evening.
Our country dance group stopped holding a Burns Supper about ten years ago after there was an outbreak of ecoli0157 among some of those who had attended, which was later traced to sheep manure getting into the water supply to the hall.
Now if we want refreshments at the dance hall we bring our own in bottles.

I just noticed James's tie. Usually I follow the guideline of "solid color tie with tartan", but that looks really good. Hmmmm... I might have to make a couple of ties from tartan scraps!
