Scottish Societies & Clans of Victoria 61st Highland Ball

Last Friday night, 4 may 2012 was the 61st Scottish Societies & Clans of Victoria Highand Ball with about 160 people in attendance. As usual it was a great night, with plenty of food, dancing, entertainment and chatting. A wee dram or two of very fine single malt was consumed also.

Here are a few photos of a most enjoyable night

A lone piper on the balcony started the the nights enrtainment

Followed up by the Williamstown RSL Pipes and Drums

    Some dancing by attendees

Reel of the 51st performed by a group of men for the S.C.D. Association

Dancers from the Victorian Scottish Union

An interesting note is that this young dancer from the VSU is wearing a 42 year old kilt in the Anderson ancient colours, the tartan being woven by the Returned Sailors & Soldiers Woollen Mill in Geelong, Victoria (Est 1922)

    More to come

Towards the end of the night gentlemen removed coats as the atmosphere heated up after a spot of spirited dancing

Two of our close friends, Bob & Madge (on the left in the photo) are both turning 90 in the next couple of weeks and have recently celebrated their 60th wedding aniversary

I do think that a lot of these overseas Highland Balls look a lot more fun than the ones in the homeland.

    I agree.
Perhaps I need to dig a hole through to Australia
Wonderful pics and its super to see those romantic nonagenarians. Sixty years together is hard to imagine.
