Seaside Highland Games, California
I had a lovely time Saturday. The sun was bright but a coolish breeze kept the weather very pleasant.
I spent most of my time hanging out with the pipe band people.
Here are the bands, first Grade Three winners the Pasadena Scots in their California kilts, lead by Drum Major David Melton:

other Grade Three bands the Nicholsons:

and Mesa Caledonia, from Arizona, in their Ancient Bruce of Kinnaird kilts:

Watching the bands are Janet MacLean and John Cahill:

In Grade Four there were the Salt Lake Scots (Utah) in their interesting magenta and grey kilts

And University of California Riverside in their bespoke kilts:

More photos:
Here are White Peak, also from Utah, in their US Bicentennial kilts, being watched by judge Lorne Cousin in his dapper attire:

The Cameron Highlanders of San Diego:

The Pacific Coast Highlanders, wearing Hunting Thompson:

Here are the judges, from left to right Ed Best (Spirit of Scotland), Charlie Lumsden (Drummond of Perth muted), John Partanen (MacDonald), Lorne Cousin:

Here and there, after the competition, I noticed little groups of pipe band people chatting, an opportunity to see various tartans together.
L-r are Ancient Bruce of Kinnaird, Silver Pride Of Scotland, and California:

L-r are California, Drummond of Perth, and Stirling and Bannockburn:

Excellent photos, brings back happy memories of my visit to the Ventura Seaside Games last year. I remember seeing some of those bands last year.

Richard, great photos! It was also great to see you at the games. In the photo you captured of some of us from Mesa, the unknown grey tartan I am wearing is Silver Pride of Scotland, pleated to the red stripe.
Take care and see you again soon!

Thanks Kevin, I'll change the post from "unknown" to Silver Pride Of Scotland.
Too bad my photo doesn't show your lovely matching necktie...
Richard
PS here's the only photo I have of myself that day...
