Shoemakers Holiday
Well, last Monday...October 25th...was Saint Crispin's Day and since the middle ages the Shoemakers Holiday. About 50 of us gathered in Delavan wisconsin for the Annual General Meeting of The Honourable Cordwainers' Company ( a 501 C-3 educational Trade Guild of shoe and bootmakers with ties to the Worshipful Company of Cordwainers established in London in the 13th century IIRC).
Only two of us were kilted although everyone wanted to sip from our flasks. I only have this one photo taken of me and my particular friend who re-enacts with several WWII groups among them the Perthshire Home Guard and another unit that was originally commanded by Lord Lovat. My friend is on the left.

I always enjoy your posts, and am glad you're back. Aren't those the hose your Mrs. made for you?

Thanks! I still look in quite regularly but it seems the more you know the more you know how much you don't know...so I am content to read and look at the photos mostly.
Yes, the hose were made by my wife. They have a standard looking fold-over cuff but are also castellated. I am particularly fortunate both in the size of my calves and the skill of the lass who has shared my life the last four decades.

DFWII,
That's a wonderful photo and sounds like quite the event. An ancestor of mine that immigrated from was a bootmaker, and that wasn't so long ago. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be a genetic ability.
I hope you don't mind if I ask what the significance of the MacQueen tartan tie that you're wearing so well with your kilt and hose in the picture?

The flash on my TOS (which you can't hardly see in the above photo) is a MacQueen variant that Matt designed and registered for me as the Black MacSuibhne. Looks like this:

And it is a lovely tartan at that - something you should be proud of!

Welcome back too. Visions of members of the guild donning their finest shoes for the meet up - as I see you have. Guilds are good - can only imagine the talent at that gathering of craftsmen.
