Re: Show us your Irish Tartan Kilts!!!
Here is the promised photo of my hand stitched 8 yard County Cavan by our own Bonnie Heather Greene. Having seen photos of Hamish's kilt in this tartan, and conferring with him and Bonnie regarding pleating options, I too chose to have it pleated to the tan line in the green block. I really like this tartan and I believe that Bonnie's work is as good as it gets. I am confident that there are others who do work as nice, but I can't imagine anyone doing it any better!
Thanks Bonnie!

Very Nice Brooke. Just a curiosity question. I see you have run the belt through the loops on the kilt. I have been told anecdotally never to do this as it will damage the kilt and only to run the sporran strap through the loops. Was yours designed for the belt or have you found this bad advice?
Thanks

Thanks Joe, I really like it too!
I have heard that same thing about belt loops, and always scratch my head when I do. These are belt loops, they are put on the kilt for kilt belts. Some people don't like them on kilts, others use them for sporran straps. The bit about them somehow damaging the kilt is difficult for me to imagine unless someone stuffs an over sized kilt belt through them, or they are poorly made or attached. After all, the kilt is held up by the kilt straps, not by the belt and belt loops, so there is no weight on them. I ask for them on my kilts because I don't like fidgeting with my belt throughout the day in order to keep it straight and level. There are others, Jock for instance, who have never heard of them on kilts until they came to Xmarks. One kilt maker I have worked with would only put them on at gun point, and at least one other would not leave them off without the same level of cooercion . So, although they may not be historically accurate, they certainly are common, and I find them useful.
Cheers,
Brooke
