    Show us your plaid brooches

I will be the first of course. This is a copy of an original plaid brooch that I have. The original is somewhat valuable so I thought it was a good idea to have a copy made that I can wear. The original had a lot of polish wear on the top device, so it is also worn down on the copy as well. It came out quite nice and I'm happy with it. Jim

I am in search of a nice plaid brooch. As of now I have purchased a dark metal rampant lion brooch that cost all of I think $15.00 USD. So it is the least amount of money that I have spent on my entire formal kilted outfit. When you find nice ones they can be in the thousands not hundreds....

If you are handy it is possible to make one yourself. I've made copies of two in silver at a silver jewelry class. Here is one:

If I wore something other than a shepherd's/blanket plaid (occasionally), then I would most definitely have a brooch to share! Looking smart, gents.

    Cheers,

So is the one on show at The House of Labhran a copy of your original then?

On the one with the 3D stag's head, I bought a repro officer's cap badge in silver, removed the lugs on the back, and soldered it onto the silver quoit. I wasn't able to figure out how to put the scribe lines onto the quoit so those are missing. Here is the second copy I made:
Uploaded with ImageShack.us The original is on the left. I used a dremel tool to do the engraving on the metal. My copy is in silver and the original is in white metal. Anyway, if you can take a class the types with a simple quoit are easy enough to make. Jim
