Some Christmas & New Year's Eve Pics
Just some pics from two kilt-wearings that I was able to enjoy over the holidays.
A shot of my Anglican rector and I after Mass on Christmas Eve:

A week later my lovely wife and I attended a smashing New Year's Eve black-tie party:

A close-up of me in my formal kit (yes, I know many discourage wearing a belt with a vest, but I like the added sparkle of it):

A shot of my friends and family, enjoying the drinks and festivities. Especially the drinks.

Dancing the night away....

It was a grand party! The only buzz-kill of the evening was a dour Scottish woman who approached me during the party to ask about my tartan and, upon learning that it was the Canadian maple leaf, proceeded to declaim that only Scottish clan tartans were true tartans and that I shouldn't be wearing such a venerable outfit with an "artificial" tartan. I helped her to appreciate my more global perspective by relieving her of the bottle of American bubbly on her table under the pretense of protecting her from "artificial" champagne!
Happy New Year to everyone! I hope you had as enjoyable a holiday season as I did!
Best,
Cirthalion

Great pictures! It looks like you had a grand time. I'm glad you were able to disarm the kilt police with your comments!

Fun pictures and a great excuse to liberate a bottle of bubbly!
It's your own style, but if I may be so bold as to say that (in my eyes)wearing a buckle with your vest makes the vest seem like it is too short. Your dress sporran seems nice enough to provide enough flash.

You look great and I agree about the belt and buckle. They add substance and flash to the ensemble. When I wear my PC, I've tried the outfit with no belt, but it just looks like something is missing.
Besides, with no belt, where would I hang my dirk?

Great pics, Professor! Glad you and the consort had such a great time seeing in the New Year.
Can we count on you two to join us for our local Burns Dinner and providing such a great spirit of celebration for us?

Yeah, I've tried it both ways, and I find the extra silver and the slightly lower waistline that the belt creates looks just slightly smarter. It's a trial and error thing. Who knows? Maybe I'll switch to going without it again some day.

Sorry to keep banging on about the belt. My kiltmaker told me that your kilt should be high enough and the waistcoat (vest) should be low enough not to require a belt. This is the purists required way of dressing, but you look swell.

Sounds like great fun, and a good comeback to relieve the lady kilt police of the artificial bubbly.
