Some more gathering pictures

Prince Charles and Camilla on their way to open The Gathering

An overview of the Clan Village with in the background Arthurs Seat

Seven pipebands (from Scotland, Germany, Belgium, Canada and The Netherlands) were playing together. Great!

a wee drummer amongst the big guys

The seven bands gathering again for the opening by Prince Charles

The clan chiefs and their feathers...

We walked up and down the royal mile for three times on Saturday. This is a view if you look to the right, halfway

Meeting another Dutch Friendship Tartan

This can't be good for your back....

It's BIG, okay?!

The clans gathering.....

After every group of 1000 clansmen there was a pipeband. This piper was to say at least: different

The public along the Royal Mile was very enthousiastic

Somebody we spotted along the way....Craig, from Dumfries!!

Looking backwards

and upwards

Allmost at the castle....crowded, very crowded

Sunday morning...Red Hot Chili Pipers...

Red hot chili dancers also...

Since we looked at everything at the Holyrood park on Saturday, we decided to take a small trip along the coast
The rain stopped, the wind was still strong

We stopped to visit Tantallon Castle

View from the castle

After the trip we headed back. We saw Alex on our way to lunch and he told us about a meeting with some x-markers.
So we joined him. I don't know the names, but somebody will fill in the blanks for me....

I "confiscated" a Gathering No Parking road sign when it all ended Sunday afternoon.
A daring criminal act with all the cctv cameras around Holyrood Castle.
Ah well...it wasn't a sheep or someones daughter I guess...so nobody really bothered.

Great photos. Thanks for posting. The Royal Mile ones give a real feel for the atmosphere. Maybe these should all be moved into one thread so nobody misses any.

Great photos, Robin!
I'm hoping to put some of my own up before the week's out. I wish I had known how to meet some X Markers...

Great photos, especially the ones along the Royal Mile... oh, to have been there!
I'm a big fan of the Dutch Friendship Tartan and am really considering as my next choice given my Dutch grandmother on my Dad's side (Luvica Van Doren). How difficult is it to find?

Not to go off topic...I think a forum search will point you in the right direction. I think it's best to order the fabric from the owners (Steve & Loes Scholte) and find a "local" kiltmaker (I highly recommend BarbT).
Back on topic...
Walking up the Mile was quite an experience that night (normally it isn't!). The spectators yelled the clan names when they passed by (Hey!!! MacLaren!!!...Hey!!! MacLennan!!!... Hey!!! MacLeod!!! etc...etc) ...many clans responded with their clan slogan or battle cry.
It was just great to be part of it...all waving...shouting and having a great time. It wasn't serious uptight business...it was fun....big fun!
