    South Rim Kilted

Was a beautiful day in Northern Arizona yesterday to took a jaunt over to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.

Had all the best stuff. Tilley hat, Scottevest, custom buffalo sporran from Miss April's Carpetbags, Arizona tartan kilt woven
by Dalgliesh and hand sewn by Kathy Lare, Lewis kilt hose and traditional ties, and Z Coils. I had the most questions about the Z coils though...go figure.

Just after I got there a lady asked if I was a part of a group - apparently I just missed a group of kilted gents also visiting the South Rim.
Never did run across them though.

Met this young Belgian couple who wanted a pic to send a good friend in Scotland.

Did just a wee bit of experimental over the edge hiking.

And took a couple of pleat shots of the beautiful Arizona tartan. And that is the Colorado River on my right.

If you look carefully you'll see the Colorado River just left of me.

Could be. Just went from viewpoint to viewpoint and didn't keep track....I know Desert View from the view and Grandview from the trail - but beyond that its one big ditch.

Some of my co-workers just finished building the parking lots, trails, and visitor center at Mathers Point, and the pictures I saw from their construction project looked very similar...but you're right, I guess it is all just a big hole.

    Pretty impressive hole...

The Grand Canyon is one of those places you need to see before you shuffle along in my opinion. Fortunately I have, and some 30 odd years ago I hiked down to a campsite half way down (Indian gardens?) and did a couple of overnights taking in Ribbon falls and some other bits on the Bright Angel. The hike out took considerably longer than getting in but I was pleased to savour every moment. It did have a lasting effect on me.

Majestic doesn't quite sum it up and it is so unlike anything this side of the big pond it bowled me over even more I suppose... I feel privilaged to have seen it and felt it anyway.

You are doing your best to upstage your Kilt again Ron. That is a lovely tartan by the way and it hangs beautifully in your pictures.
