    A Special Visitor at the Tartan Day Celebration in Frdericksburg

    The Fredericksburg Scottish Society celebrated Tartan Day on Saturday, 4/7. It was a beautiful day and with the Easter weekend there were many folks about. The coverage will received in the local paper contributed immensely to our turn out of the public. Past Tartan Days would be consider to successful if we had seven people sign our Guest Book expressing interest in our Society. We had twenty two!

    We had the good Doctor Mercer even show up for the celebration!

    We had a story teller of Scottish short stories in the back garden.

    A fiddle player of Scottish folk music in the front of the Apothecary.

    And a contingent of Rabble from XMTS!

    [L to R] Orvice, Mark Ellis, Glasgow, MC

    Being checked on from the Apothecary Shop

    This lovely lady was from San Salvador and asked to be photographed with me. She was visiting her sister and returning to her home next week.

    This young lady told us about the castle where her sister had married over the summer.

    This gentleman is Scottish born and as young child his family immigrated to the US. He now lives in the gated community where I work.

    Orvice cut rather a dashing figure

    This couple shared with me their Geddes linage and how the family had come to the colonies settling in western Virginia.

    Orvice encountered a fellow a re-enactor and shows him some ancient tartan that he had Peter MacDonald create for him.

    David from the Welsh community had dropped by to encourage us to participate more in their annual Welsh Festival. As we talked to David he commented that where there were four kilted men there must be some Glenlivet. I knew it was now time for an unveiling and inauguration of a special item that I had acquired from the XMarks the Scot Store. I had been saving the use of it till this important day, Tartan Day!

    Yes, a smaller cousin of Quaich that travels the globe sharing goodwill of our kilted community – the wee Quaich! Our clan crest is on the bottom of the bowl and dandelions adorn the handles on the sides of the Quaich it reads; “The quest of the Quaich” and "Traveling to share our love of the kilt with the world”.

    We retired to back garden to conduct our ‘christening ceremony’. David eagerly volunteered to photograph the event.

    David was correct! Mael brought out the water of life. A wee bottle for the wee Quaich!

    He poured it into the wee Quaich to begin its christening.

    Mark was first to taste the "usquebaugh", the water of life.

    Orvice followed;

    Our newest Xmarker to our local Rabble, Glasgow followed;

    Then Mael;

    David to taste the belonging of the community

    David shared he had worn the kilt once as he is the manager of the local Welsh band Moch Pryderi. He shared he was told he needed to learn how to sit properly! We shared some insights and he said he wanted to get kilt. Glasgow and I shared our kilts were semi-trads; not too expensive and easy to maintain. Glasgow gave he Rocky’s business card. A new kilt wearer maybe in our midst!

    The wee Quaich takes its place of honor on the table.

    A geat day in many ways!

    What a great photo-journal. It is always good when there is some positive response back from the public - makes it all worth while.

    Regards

    Chas
