This is my first attempt at dropping a photo into a post. This used to be a plain black leather sporran. I've wanted to get a set of brown leather kit for a while now and decided to do this 'on the cheap'! Anyway, I spray painted the sporran with a flat brown BBQ paint then let it dry for a couple of days. Then "antiqued" it by brushing on and then polishing with black shoe polish. It will need to be well dried and rubbed to make sure nothing rubs off on the kilt. The strap is a re-built dog leash and the kilt pin was custom turned from coco-bolo. Now all I need is a 2-1/4" brown belt and brass buckle.

Well done! I might have to steal a bunch of those ideas and work up a brown leather set myself.... ~Sav

Blu, i love it when someone takes a regular product and makes it their own! now you have an outfit that is not only yours but is part of you. great ideas! macG
My black leather belt is now brown. My pewter bluckle is now bronze. Now all I need to do is replace the black belt.
Your bronze buckle looks great! How did you do it?

The buckle pattern is in relief so the color settles to the low areas giving it an oxidized bronze appearance. The result was much better than I expected.
Blu, I think you've done well here, taking something and putting your mark on it. Also doing it with what you had available and making it work for you, it's the true highland way! Love the buckle work, but especially love the cocobolo pin, I've done a bit of wood turning but would never have thought of making a kilt pin. I think I may have to steal that Idea and think It may look good as a keeper on a sporran( you know what I mean ,to keep the sporran closed).
