    Star Trek Cruise Formal

I thought you all might like to see the outfit I put together for Captain Sulu's Soiree on the recent Star Trek Cruise.

I was expecting our friend Zardoz to chime in. I know he (like I) enjoy the surprise offered to fit a circumstance.

I used to have a red Class A tunic from the original series that I wore occasionally with my kilt. It has not fit in years and I am not sure what I did with it.

I always thought that the maroon jacket from the movies would have looked good if altered for kilt wear, but I have to say I like the way the TNG dress white looks.

I think it's because the TNG White Dress jacket closely mimics the military dress jackets of today.

To my eye, the best feature (at least kilt related) to these uniforms is the cut of the bottom, with the grey part a little higher. I sort of mimics the cut of a jacket for a sporran.

As an aside TNG seemed to make up a new dress uniform every time they needed one. I always like the earlier ones that were like a long coat with the right sided opening. Tough to wear with a kilt, but still my favorite.

Funny, I've always thought that exact same thing myself. I'm a life-long fan of the original series and movies (Wrath of Khan being one of the best movies ever made, in my humble opinion). But I'm not necessarily a "Trekkie" that goes to conventions or wears costumes. However, if a tunic like this one were to land in my lap and I could shorten it a little for kilt-wearing, I'd strongly consider it!

In many ways, it bears strong resemblance to older British Army tunics, and maybe that's why I think it would be such a good look with a kilt.
