Strings outrageous Kilt Hose, take two
Ms. String, that lovely and talented lass, appeared in my msg room the other day with a request for pics, and news about life and grad school. It was nice to hear from her! Anywho, so here are some pics of the OUTRAGEOUS kilt hose that she knitted me a couple of years ago, as well as a glimpse of what Yours Truly looks like when he wears a kilt at work. The kilts is M'Lady Chrystel's 7-meter in the Capercaillie tartan. It's the nicest kilt I own.

I need to rollover the top of the sock a bit more, sorry about that, String!

I love the detail work that she put into the body and turn-over portion of those hose. A great look overall.

Lookin' good!
I hope nobody has anything negative to say about those "white" hose. They look fantastic!!!
The brown leather really works well too. We seem to see black more often than not.

Those are gorgeous! The entire outfit is so well put together, and I agree that the brown is a perfect compliment to the kilt/hose. Well done!
I know some don't like the white/oatmeal hose, but paired like that, the look is great. Thanks for sharing!

Looks great!! That's for work?!
IT, right? How come our IT guys aren't so put together?
I'm guessing the lasses are "accidently" spilling coffee on their keyboards and needing tech support.

There have only been a couple of examples of white or off-white hose that I've thought looked pretty darn good, and this is one of them. In both cases, what I thought made them work was the cable pattern. It really distinguishes it from plain old "white socks".
Of course, with that masculine pose and bulging muscles, your look says to the world, "Oh yeah? I dare you to say something about my white hose and flat cap!"

I missed it, why do flat caps get a bad rap on XMTS?
I love 'em
I even have 2.
...kilts and flat caps, I may have too much menswear.

It is said by several of our local Scots, that flat caps are not worn with kilts, in the Highlands. At one point there were some inflammatory posts made. I remember one person telling forestermodern, to "take that awful piece of candy off of your head" ...that's pretty close to a direct quote. This started a fair bit of conflict, reminiscent of the hullaballoo over white kilt hose.
Upshot is that I'm sure it's true that in the Highlands, flat caps/driving caps aren't usually worn with kilts. Those same lads who won't wear such a cap with a kilt, often happen to own one or more of these caps and like them just fine. Jock Scot has said that Mrs. Jock has put her foot down and told him..."no more caps".... so it's not like the lads don't like these caps. They just don't wear them with a kilt.
Flat/driving caps = good.... BUT
Flat/driving caps + kilts ... not done in the Highlands.
Here in the USA, some gents follow that practice. Flat caps are fine, they just don't wear them with traditionally styled tartan kilts. Other fellows, like me for example, really like to wear flat caps with a tartan kilt. The look is apparently somewhat jarring to some of our Scottish members, but I think they've sort of gotten used to it, though it's still "not done" in the highlands. Certainly, nobody has ever really said much about wearing a flat cap with a "contemporary" kilt like a Utilikilt or Freedom Kilt or X-Kilt. Those aren't traditional kilts, and seems like everybody agrees that if you wear such a thing, then a flat cap is just fine, if you want to wear one.
It all became kind of a controversy along the lines of the white hose thing, but it seems to have quieted down rather a lot in the past year or so. So now when it comes up, my sense is that most people mention the old squabble more tongue-in-cheek than anything else.
As a total aside, I happen to think that GGGP would look great in a flat cap and swishy kilt skirt.

Alan, those look amazing and comfortable! Total envy here. I'm saluting you with my fingers touching the edge of my flat cap Sweet looking kilt too.
Also noticed the fouled anchor kilt pin. Nice touch.
