Summer Solstice, Derbyshire - for Outlander fans.

Since it was the Summer Solstice, my wife and I visited the largest standing stones in Derbyshire, UK. Known as the Nine Stones, although only 4 are left, and not to be confused with the Nine Ladies, another nearby stone circle with much smaller stones.

this picture of them was taken from Robin Hood's Stride about ¼ mile away:

Although the sun did peak through periodically for a few seconds at a time, regrettably not at the right times for the photos.

tpa: Great pictures! Thanks for posting. I think the lighting is superb. The last one is my favorite - looks like a gaggle of trolls. I guess it's good to get stoned on the Summer Solstice.

I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Wonderful pictures. Thank you for sharing them.
I like how they don't mow inside the stones, i'd like to think it gives the "wee folk" cover.

    Beautiful photography!

But where are all the women in flowing diaphanous garments dancing with lit candles?

Thank you OC Richard. Sadly I think it was too cold for the dancing women, all we had for company was a couple in hiking gear - not quite the same ambiance.

Very nice! Beautiful land. I would never be able to leave such a place without force.
