Mrs Stilletto_Rebel surprised me with a birthday party. I don't celebrate my birthday and this is the first birthday I've acknowledged in 20 years. The cake - made by the very talented Mrs S_R:
(If you watch Breaking Bad, you'll understand the cake reference. I love the show!)
I maintain that as I've only celebrated 21 birthdays, I'm only 21. Mrs S_R disagrees...
The following morning we were off on our roadtrip. We went to bed at about 2am and were up again at 5am to catch the first ferry out of Sorrento. The reason for this was to get a jump on the easy public holiday traffic that would be converging on the Great Ocean Road (one of the best driving roads in the world):
Cape Otway Lighthouse:
A little before Apollo Bay we went a little inland and found this little bit of rainforest:
Our ride; my 1993 Mazda MX5 (Miata).
I've converted him to LPG which means the majority of the boot is filled with a 40-ltr doughnut gas tank.
Day one ends at Apollo Bay and a total of just 295kms under the tyres. Day two starts with dawn from our Balcony:
Another early start allows us to beat the holiday traffic, and we actually get pretty clear roads for most of the day.
Port Campbell inlet:
My first 'wild' Echidna!! Mrs S_R says we were very lucky to see it, as this is the second one she's ever seen:
