Tartan Week in NY (Dressed to Kilt)
Many of you saw my photos from the "Celebration of Tartan" exhibition on Ellis Island last weekend, which kicked off "Tartan Week" in NYC.
Thread here.
I was able to remain in New York for a couple of days afterwards, allowing me to see some of the sights, as well as attend the Dressed to Kilt fashion show.
Here are some photos from that visit. First, a nice walk through Central Park on Monday morning. (Being an NC mountain boy myself, this was the part of NY where I felt most at home!)

I ran into some familiar faces in the park...

Yours truly, not in a kilt, but still in the tartan...

(Scarf is in the Scottish Tartans Authority tartan).

I also got a chance to see the American Museum of Natural History (aka, the cool dinosaur bone museum).

They had all sorts of other interesting artifacts from cultures around the world, including this amazing salmon skin coat (how about that for a kilt jacket)?

Sadly, not much in the Natural History Museum of relevance to Scotland (there were wings of exhibits on just about every culture except European), though I did find this wee bit of Scotia!

Dressed to Kilt
Tuesday night was Dressed to Kilt. I won't post a long review of all the various outfits, etc. I'm sure you'll be able to find much better pics of all the models, etc., on line.
I will say that, though I had a great time, I felt that the energy level in the room was a bit low, and those with me who had been to numerous Dressed to Kilt shows in the past confirmed. Not sure why, but hopefully things will improve in the years to come.
I just thought I'd share a few personal photos.

From left to right, myself, Bob Currie (president of the Clan Currie Society, which sponsors the show), his wife Suzanne Currie, and couture designer Michael Kaye.
Michael Kaye generally has one or more pieces in the show. This year he designed the dress in the new Ellis Island tartan worn by Sara Gore.
And here she is now!

The male tenor trio Caledon came out to entertain the crowd at one point. They put on a very energetic performance, as this photo illustrates.

A couple of random model photos of interest...

After the show, Keifer Sutherland came out with a guitar and sang a ditty for us.

A fun night, though a late one -- the Curries and I had a very early morning train to catch down to DC where Bob and I were both scheduled to speak at a Tartan Day Symposium at the Capital Visitor Center. To Washington!

Dammit...I really wanted to get back to New York before...but now....
So...where are all of these "I heart boys in kilts" chicks when I'm wearing a kilt?
...and we should start an international conspiracy to get Robert and Lady Chrystel included in the next Dress To...who do we have to pay off (I'm from Chicago...)?
Thanks for the photo's, Matt...I suppose that that event is one of the few things that I would have on a "bucket list".
Best

Good idea. Lady Chrystel's creations would be a good fit for the show, and Robert would definitely bring up the energy level (I've seen a video of part of one of his performances.)

Thanks for the thread and the excellent pics. Looks like you were dressed for cold weather in Central Park. It looks much colder there in NYC than in Franklin on March 25 when I stopped at STM, as I was passing through Franklin on my way from FL to TN, and bought my Membership and a pair of Lewis hose from Kathie.
The photos show you had a great time and quite an interesting fashion show.

Indeed, it even snowed a little on Friday!
Glad to be back here in the south, in short-sleeve weather. I hope you enjoyed your visit at the museum!

Yes, I always enjoy stopping, this was the 3rd visit. Funny how I always seem to find something to buy.
