    Thrift shop kilt :)

Seriously stumbled upon this by accident while thrift shopping. No idea what the tartan is, and it's a bit snug (okay more than a bit) But one doesn't leave such finds behind. No make inside but I thought what the heck might as well.
I already had hose/stockings left over from dance, tried on my ghilles and they are a bit to small ( I was only wee)
My biggest let down is the majority of my friends think it's all "school girly" and not "dedicated to her highland heritage!"
Sorry about the awful pictures my mother thinks my kilt obsession rather odd.

A picture of the tartan up close I wish I knew who's tartan it was.

I now understand why these things should be made to fit.
Still you can't go wrong with $2.50

I concur, it's a dress Gordon. Our high school band has the same tartan. Nice find!

I think I recognise the tartan but am not sure as it's upside down. Please could you rotate the photo?

It's a ladies' skirt...not a kilt and, as others have stated, it is Dress Gordon tartan. Good find for you, miss, although (referencing your other thread) I wouldn't suggest asking your husband to wear it.

It seems to be box pleated for a more girlish figure - that is why the pleats are opening up, there is insufficient taper to cope with womanly curves. It looks to be a nice bit of fabric, though, I would be tempted to take it apart to convert into something else - a sash or wrap, maybe a waistcoat. It is a very smart looking tartan.

Thanks for the husband comment, but I am very single. The last lad in my life decided he liked lads a bit more than lasses. and So far it's me and the cat.

and Anne I'm definitely thinking of modifying it, either re-sizing or turning it into a sash or wrap.
I am a curvy girl. which is making this process interesting kilts and skirts aren't intended for my shapely figure.

    Nice find!

The "schoolgirl" thing is why I usually wear my argyle hose with my kilt. White just looks a bit too... well, schoolgirly, at least on me. The sgian dubh and sporran help too, but of course they're not very girly. But they help people get the idea that it's not just a "plaid skirt."

You might try hose of a different color; that should help eliminate that look and would be pretty to boot.
