Cool Took my wife to the Tokyo Ballet

On Sunday, we went to see to the Tokyo Ballet to see Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake for the final performance. The orchestra was the Tokyo Philharmonic, and the dancers did an amazing job! Dressing up for the occasion was a must!

I chose to wear my new XMTS-tartan kilt made by our very own Tartan Tess, who really did a bang-up job on it! I gave her the unenviable task of producing a military box-pleat, but she really came through. Thanks again! The result is one beast of a kilt! It's built to last! Very sturdy construction and quality materials. I would have no trouble recommending her to any of our rabble who would like something made by her.

In addition, mega-thanks to Steve Ashton of Freedom Kilts for purveying my wife's matching cloak! She loves it! Buzz Kidder sporran and grey pipers' hose also courtesy of Freedom Kilts of Victoria!

Here are the photos to prove this event happened, as per (unwritten) forum rules.

At the restaurant for lunch before the performance...

Just outside Tokyo Opera Palace in Shinjuku.

    Obligatory pleat shot...

I told Tartan Tess that she should feel free to have fun with the kilt liner -- and she did! Being that this kilt was made up in Maine, what would be more appropriate than this? I love it! Thanks, T!

A few weeks ago, I was shopping locally and found a brooch that would be just perfect as a kilt pin! The feather is very much like the one I use in my personal brand logo!

Very nicely done, sir! You both look incredible. Your top half is very muted, yet works well to my eye. The small flash of color is a great touch. I like it very much.

    Splendid Attire

Nice outfit Jim. My wife and I have season tickets to a minor symphony (the Long Beach Symphony) and on your point about dress I agree. It always seems very odd to me to see someone in "low rider pants" and a T shirt looking like they just rolled out of bed. I am always kilted and for opening night usually make it a little more formal.

I'm embarrassed that I didn't come up with that myself. I do so love my fellow Marines

Hey Jim. It is really a treat for me to see the kilt on you!
And I love the matching cloke on your wife. Makes for a smart looking couple.
Because of the many different military box pleat instructions on Xmark (Thank you everybody-Especially Steve) and the fact I read a few times that it didn't matter which way the pleats fold, as long as they are doubled; I just couldn't hand sew the outside pleats down "clockwise" being right handed.
    Thanks for the pictures!

Very nice, Jim! I'm really happy you took the initiative! You both look great! Knowing how much the Japanese appreciate their own national dress, I have absolutely NO doubt they enjoyed yours, too.

No worries, T. ;-) Hmm... Maybe that's why I had such an easy time getting into my left-hand-drive car.

そうですね! ありがとうございました! I certainly got a few smiles and kind comments. Yes, some of the older ladies were wearing formal kimono too.
