traveling and a new hatred of picasa photo.
I have been traveling since June, first to Yellowstone then to Maryland and then back to California. I got two Scottish festivals in that time one in California one in Arizona. I have been back for two weeks but have spent almost all free time trying to recover almost all the photos I took because I added a photo service on my computer called picasa because someone told me it would allow me to do things I needed to when down sizing large batches of photos (mostly from the festivals) However it didn't do what it said it would so I deleted it. Unfortunately it also completely deleted every photo from my computer. I had already backed up my Yellowstone and vista Scottish games but all the thousands I took at Gettsyburg, Harper's Ferry, Great Falls, Antietam, Manassas, Monocy, Petrified Forest, Fort Necessity, Scott, McHenry and Frederick plus a lot of hiking and even canoeing. I have probably recovered all I'm going to get so will put up some of the Flagstaff Games and festival in a few days but here are some of the various places me, my family and my kilts. Grizzly at little round top looking for rebs. a weird bug/slug/beetle (I've heard all 3) my favorite photo of my grandson

I always enjoy your treks and photos and am bummed out that you lost so many pics through the gremlins of the machine.
Did you get to see the statue at Gettysburg honoring the 11th Mississippi infantry? A good friend of mine did the work hiring another friend as his model. Here's a link to his "page".

Bill Beckwith wants to get one of his pieces on every battlefield in America honoring Mississippi servicemen and women. I hope you'll look for his art in all your future adventures.

I did see that one and shot a picture but it was at a distance and didn't turn out very well.

Yes it is. Although I went to high school in flagstaff back in the 70's I had never seen it. It was really cool.

I lived in the Phoenix valley for 15 years, we would shoot up to Sedona many times a year, we always stopped there to see the dwellings, did you stop at the well too?

grizzbass, I can understand your frustration with Picasa, I uninstalled it because it kept wanting me to do things with my pictures and identify people and generally waste time. However whilst it can delete photos if you ask it to, your photos are not deleted by uninstalling the program. I have uninstalled it on 2 computers and still have all my pictures. So, unless it asked you whether you wanted it to delete your pictures and you said yes it would not have done so. It would delete any edits you made using it, like Lightroom and Photoshop do, but it does not create copies of your pictures unless you ask it to. I cannot remember what I was asked when I uninstalled it, but aside from being generally annoying, it acts much like windows photo viewer and will only delete what you ask it to.
If you want a program to resize batches of photos, see my post on Irfanview.
If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!

I appreciate your post and will look at your link. I don't know when you uploaded picasa but I can guarantee you it not only uploaded all my pictures to it's site without my permission but then deleted them completely when I deleted it. I spent 25 minutes arguing with their tech people about that delete. The argument wasn't about whether they had taken my pictures because they agreed they had. It's part of their service. They claimed when I deleted picasa it had sent all my pictures to my recycle. Since that was the first place I looked and had it on while I fought them I know they didn't send it there. What I did recover I recovered mostly from searching the cards I used and finally a complete scan of my computer. Thanks for the link.
