Trip to Ireland #12
Here is a selection of pictures taken by me on my choir trip to Ireland.
Looking down the River Liffey in the opposite direction from O'Connell Bridge, Dublin.

The Great Man himself, statue of Daniel O'Connell at the head of the street that now bears his name.

As you can see, it stands upon an impressive plinth.

One of the angels on the plinth.

Possibly the most iconic building in the history of Ireland - the Post Office in O'Connell St, Dublin. It was the centre of the Easter Uprising in 1916, was largely destroyed apart from the front fascia and even though it has obviously been restored, you can still see bullet and shell marks on the stonework when close up to it.

A closer view of the front fascia.

More to come!

Thanks for posting the pictures of Dublin. My wife and I were there about 3 years ago, and your pics help to bring back the places we visited.
One of the most notable things about Dublin for me was the crowds! It was almost faster to walk than take the bus. Still, we had a very good time and would like to return.

Great pics Tref. I used to ask my Dad why so many of the great public buildings in Dublin had pockmarks in the stonework - the Four Courts, especially - and he told me that it was due to bullets during the Civil War (and earlier) and which had never been repaired.

Yes Niall, the Four Courts was another site that got heavily damaged and the damage wasn't just in the 1916 uprising but in the Civil War in the 1920s.
But you so have to go fairly close to see it, so well have they done the repairs.
