    Tuesday gig: Holiday Brass

I participate each year in the Holiday Brass Los Angeles concert. Many of the top brass players in the area including members of the LA Philharmonic and top studio musicians (the guys you hear on all the big Hollywood movies) donate their time for this fundraiser.

They have me play Highland Cathedral. They have a superb brass arrangement, which I think they got from one of the British military Bandmasters.

In prior years, because all the musicians are in tuxedos/concert black I've worn a Prince Charlie. This year I decided to wear military style dress.

Here's the daunting assemblage of stuff I'm going to have to put on, in the Green Room before the gig

And here's a pic somebody took while I'm playing Highland Cathedral. I don't have a doublet so I wore this Archer Green Patrol Dress jacket

This is a kilt site after all, but I don't have a pic of the kilt! It's an extra-heavy weight MOD style kilt, Royal Stewart, that weighs a ton.

If anyone wants to hear how it sounded, a couple people made cellphone videos, and I have them on my FaceBook page

Good decision on the military kit. Not all pipe music associates with Regimental decorum, but it is a great reminder to an audience that others serve so that they can enjoy freedom of congregating and listening to the music without fear.
