Turpin's Memorial Toast, April 25 2014
I can't believe it's been a year since he left us. I can tell you how much I dreaded this anniversary. I was not a happy camper for most of April wondering how I was going to mark this day. How could I do it so far away from where we started? Who could I turn to, to make this easier? Well, the universe has a funny way of working things out.
I changed jobs last year and have really bonded with my co-workers, but mid-April, 3 of our team got cut and it was decided that we had to party to make their farewell a special occasion. The party planner chose April 25th. I knew then what I was going to do.
I packed up the shot glasses and the bottle of 12yr Balvenie Doublewood and all my hand knit bonnets (currently in the for sale section). I wore Turpin's Maple Leaf box-pleat kilt and that night at the celebration, I stood up and told them Turpin's story. I then passed out the bonnets, filled the glasses with the Balvenie and we toasted Turp in style. I think he would have been pleased and touched at our tribute. I know that my sad day turned around with the help of good friends.
To Turp!

A fitting tribute to a dear friend Turpin.
I've kept his Facebook page on my friends list and he still visits my Airport City game in spirit.

And it's nice to think that those bonnets are now making their way among the rabble, carrying the memory with them.
