University reunion weekend, 2011

[Really a McQueen]

Every summer, the University of Portland (in Portland, Oregon) hosts a weekend reunion for its alumni, and family. This is an opportunity to spend the weekend with old friends, and to make new ones. Which explains why I have as friends, alumni who are old enough to be my parents, as well as ones who are young enough to be be my offspring (if I had any).

The Friday evening activity has been called the Purple Flamingo Lounge, and is a very casual evening of socializing, eating and enjoying beverages. The school's colours are purple and white, which does limit the tartans which display your school spirit. For this evening, I wore a white polo shirt, white (ugh) hose with purple flashes, and a Sport Kilt (in their Royal Purple, which appears to be a near match to the Warrior tartan sold by others).

I was greeted at the door by the Associate Director for Reunions & Social Media who dearly loved the tartan chosen.


Inside, I had the opportunity to visit with many other alumni and their family. No one asked 'the question', but several asked about the tartan, and where they could purchase some fabric in it. (Gave out several recommendations). But the best part was posing for photos with other alums.

The lass to my right is a MacDonald, and both ladies have been among my best friends for thirty years. The gentleman on my far left, is a brewer for Widmer Brothers Brewing in Portland, and brought two ales brewed especially for our reunion weekend.int:
