US Air Force Pipe Band at the White House and Capitol

Our daughter is an Air Force Captain and piper who plays with the Air Force Reserve Pipe Band when they do gigs. Last Tuesday, they played at the Capitol and the White House. The band played President Obama, the Prime Minister of Ireland, Speaker Boehner, and Rep. King down the steps of the House of Representatives. In the pic below, our young Captain is the piper just to the right of the President's head in the photo.

You can see a YouTube vid of them playing Minstrel Boy as the President walked down the steps (our daughter is the piper at the top of the steps):

And here's a pic of them in the White House (our daughter is far left). She had a chance to shake the hand of her Commander in Chief after they played. Pretty special!

What a distinct honour! Congratulations to your daughter and the band looks very smart indeed! My fellow Marine Corps brethern need to organise a pipe band sometime soon - wouldn't it be splendid if every branch of the U.S. Armed Forces had their own official pipe and drums band?!

    Kind regards,

    Kind regards,
When we were waiting to play in the Savannah parade, a Marine Sgt Major came up and played the marine corps hymn on a borrowed set of US Air Force pipes. The talent exists; it's a matter of political will.
