    Victorian Gala

    Hi all,

The Geological Society of America is having its 125th anniversary this year, and, at the annual national meeting last week in Denver (8000 geologists!!!), GSA had a fabulous celebration gala. Dress was black tie or Victorian. So, of course, my daughter and I had to make bustle dresses, and our guys wore their kilts and PCs instead of tuxes. So, here we are, dressed to the 9s.

l to r: our son-in-law (USA St. Andrews Society tartan), our daughter (5 months pregnant! *squeals* I'm going to be a grandma!!!), moi, and my husband (New Hampshire State tartan).

That's some fine stitchery, Doc. Is your dress silk, perhaps dupioni?

mmmm- actually, it's upholstery fabric from Joann's...... ;-)

Will try to post a close-up tomorrow. It's pretty swell fabric, but it's definitely 100% polyester...

Barb: What a beautiful/handsome family! You all look like you just stepped out of a Victorian novel. I'm thinking Sir Walter Scott of course for the gentlemen, and George Elliot for the ladies - "Middlemarch" and "The Mill on the Floss" in particular. He was such a great writer.

Congratulations on your first grandchild! You are about to enter what we in the south call "hog heaven". Enjoy every moment of it.

8000 geologists!? I hope someone kept count of how many rock hammers were lost in the Rockies last week.

    Cheers!

I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Looking good. I like your necklace. It balances the dress perfectly.

Congratulations on becoming a grandmother in-waiting.
