    What clan!!!

Hi all, I have had this photo for a long time, but never knew what clan it's is. I think it is a Scottish Chieftain. It was hand colored and is an albumin type of photo (on paper). The kilt and tartan and the woman's dress have purple in them. There is some writing on the back I posted a pic of it too. If anyone could help me Identify them I would appreciate it. Thanks, uncletom

I can't make it out either. I was hoping someone could. The second word is rustic then 65, but I'm not sure what the first word is. Thanks for looking.

My guess is that it says "Jim Burns". As for the tartan, it looks like Royal Stewart to me. I am assuming, of course, that whoever colored the tartan was not being terribly meticulous.

    It could be "Rustie '65".

The real problem is that there's not enough of the sett to make out what it is. Just because somebody painted it doesn't mean he used the colors that are in the actual tartan. So while the tartan in the photo may be red or purple, the actual tartan might be blue or green!

True that the colors that were painted may not be the original colors at all. the person developing the photo may not have even been the person who shot the photo.

The other point that I would make is that over time, the ink used may have changed color. Blue or red could have developed into the purple that you see.

There are two people in the picture. The last three letters on the top line look very much like "a-n-d" The first name looks like "Jink" ? So, I'm guessing is "Jink and Rustie 65".
