Whidbey Island Highland Games 2013
Last Saturday, August 10, was the Whidbey Island Highland Games. The morning started with a sea cruise:

After the short ferry ride, I got to the Games. The dancers were there, warming up:

Of course, the heavy athletes were there:

The SAMS presented the colors and the massed bands followed:

There were even some SCA fellows, whacking each other with staffs (staves?):

I took second in the 2/4 march in the solo competition. A couple approached me when I was warming up and asked if I would play at their family reunion, three doors down from the Games. They promised lunch and a beer. Who could pass up that? Here I am, playing at the reunion. It was a beautiful house on the water, the family reunion amounted to about fifty people and they were good for the lunch, the beer and they passed the hat, so I took away a little change, too. Oh, yeah, the picture:

All in all, a fun Games. Starting the day with a pleasant ferry ride, ending the day with more coin in my sporran than when I started. And placing in the solos.
