Why I choose the USMC Tartan

As afore mentioned I never took the opportunity to serve in the Military. So on the occasion of my receiving my eleventh Kilt, a Stillwater heavyweight in the USMC tartan. I would like to take a moment to Honor THREE great US marines The first is My father in law Martin Thompson. Martin served in Korea at the end of the Korean war. Though he never really saw any action while there, he has been a role model in my life. One of the kindest loving men I have ever had the privilege of knowing.

Second is Michel. I have known Mike all of his life. He is the same age as one of my sons, and living next door I had the privilege of watching him grow up . Mike was also a Boy Scout in my troop. Mike is an Eagle Scout and held the distinction of camping more nights than any other Scout during our time together. I was as close to Michael as I was to my own sons so when He made the decision to Join the US Marines. I was both proud and concerned. Shortly after enlistment and training, Michael was sent to Iraq as part of the first Marine division that Invaded Baghdad. I will never forget that day, when one of “my boys” rode on the first wave to take Baghdad and how happy I was when he came home safely.

Third was PFC James Robeson. Jim was my fathers cousin and was a popular fixture at family reunions and gatherings. We all knew Jim was a war hero, He was proud to show you his left hand with three missing fingers and how he lost them on Iwo Jima. What we knew then many Americans still do not know, was there were two flags raised on Mt Suribachi. We have all seen the famous one many times. However there was a smaller flag raised earlier that morning and among them was Jim Robeson pictured here in the lower right hand corner.

So if any one asks me why I chose the USMC Leatherneck tartan I will be happy to tell you about three Great Marines.

Those are wonderful reasons for wearing the tartan and for honoring Marines. Good for you and wear it proudly.

Great stories, and good on ya for respecting these lads! But from a Marine, you don't have to justify your wearing of this tartan to me. Wear it with your obvious pride and enjoy how great you look

    I agree,
As an active duty Marine, I say you don't need to justify it to anyone. Just wear it with pride and honor the Marines you know and love. Your kilt looks great and thanks for the support

Matty, I would like to re-enforce the sentiments of my brother Marines. You need not justify your wearing of the Leatherneck Tartan to anyone.

As you may remember, I was born, raised and served in my beloved USMC. I may have served in the Army later, but if cut, I bleed Marine. I thank you for remembering 'your' Marines in such an honorable way. Wear it with pride Sir.
