Winter Tartan Scottish Ale
Stopped in to the Rock Bottom Brewery for lunch today in Colorado Springs, and they have a special winter ale called Winter Tartan Scottish Ale. Gotta love the label!

Barb, you're out in Colorado at the Springs? I could recommend a wonderful town in the foothills for a wintertime visit......

Up towards Denver, west of Morrison Colorado, up 74 tru the canyon is the town of Evergreen Colorado. It is a wonderful drive up the canyon, along the creek to Evergreen. The community is centered in a small valley, besides evergreen lake and Bear Creek. You can explore the surrounding countryside as it will be beautiful this time of year. So, north on Hwy 25, just north of Castle Rock, then northwest on 85 towards Sedalia, past that to 470, then northwest on 470 past 285 where you turn directly west towards Morrison and up the canyon on 74 to Evergreen.
Its a bit of a journey Barb but I am sure you will find quite a few pleasant places on the way and maybe even a place to stay in the area to explore more before returning back down to the Springs.

Why do they have to ruin what looks like a perfectly good beer by putting vanilla in it. That makes it an alco-pop over here. I would like to see them try and market that in East Kilbride!

Totally cool, Barb. Breweries need pipe bands to celebrate their brands, don't you think? I'm working on our local brewery and brew pub about having musical events for their roll-outs.

That's a great idea, Tulloch!
Grizzly - dunno if it _actually_ has vanilla in it. I'm always baffled by descriptions of wines and beers - "an afternote of citrus", yada yada yada, even though it has zip citrus in it.

I know what you mean Barb, beer should be made from malted barley, yeast, hops and water. No strawberries, bananas, mangoes, pineapples or fruit of any kind, if the finished beer reminds you of a fruit on the nose or on the palate then that is the skill of the brewer and nothing to do with the addition of a superfluous fruit.

Good point there Simon, but I do tend to get sick of having to carry a spoon around with me to scoop the ice-cream head off the beer before I can sample the fluid.

Absolutely right Mike. Quarter of an inch is plenty and over here the head should not count as part of the pint, that's why we now have oversize pint glasses to accommodate a bit of head. ( no sniggering at the back! )
