Wood Badge Beading Ceremony
This evening, I received my Wood Badge beads (to signify completion of Boy Scout's premier training for adults). David, our course director and holding the kudu horn, officiated. My fellow Owls, Andy and Becky, drove an hour to honor me with their presence. I am humbled.
Oh, yeah. That's yours truly in the MacLaren modern.
William F. de Bois MacLaren, a Scout commissioner from Rosneath, Dunbartonshire, Scotland, near Glasgow, purchased a derelict estate near Epping Forest near the town of Chingford (about an hour from London) and presented Gilwell Park to the Scout Association in July 1919. To recognize Mr. MacLaren's generous gift, the Gilwell Park staff wore neckerchiefs made from the MacLaren tartan. The Clan MacLaren Society of North America has established a special associate (non-voting) membership for any Scouter who has earned his or her Wood Badge. You're definitely the best dressed in the photo. Congratulations on your achievement. Lovely tartan and you wear it well.

Congratulations, Dennis - my dad went through the Woodbadge program when I was a Scout, and I know what a big commitment of time and energy the program takes. Very interesting to know about the MacLaren connection and associate membership too, thanks!

Welcome brother woodbadger. I'm no longer active in Scouting but earned my woodbadge twice here in the UK. First as a Scout Leader (Scoutmaster in the US???) then as a Commissioner. No longer fit but miss scouting a lot

Thank you, all. I failed to mention that three boys took special interest in my attire. So, I explained what it was and what the tartan meant. The seeds are sown.

If the Scout Leader is the adult head of the troop, then yes, that's the scoutmaster.
I used to be an Owl, a good ol' Owl, too...
