    WV tartan

Here's the West Virginia tartan, and the designer of that tartan. Sorry, but I can't remember his name. Looking at his shirt, I now remember....John Grant!??

    Re: WV tartan

Loosely based on a very old tartan woven shawl found in the hollers many years ago and simply called "the West Virginia Shawl" and kept in the WV DAR museum:

"Our final thread count, though similar but not identical to the Shawl, was created incorporating the colors of the West Virginia Symbols. Red for the State Bird, the Cardinal; Black for the State Animal, the Black Bear, coal and oil; Green for the State Flower, the Rhododendron and mountain meadows; Yellow for the State Tree, the Sugar Maple and fall colors; Dark Blue for the mountain rivers and lakes; Azure for the sky above; & White to have all the colors of this great nation intertwined."

It was officially adopted by the state govt in 2008. Previous xmarks thread about it from back then:
