    X Kilt prototype pictures

OK, look them over and give Me your thoughts. What do you like, what don't you like? What are your suggestions? Here are mine....

    1. I'm going to stitch down the upper 4-5 inches of the front of the apron on the wearers left side.

    2. I'm going to encourage the use of slightly narrower aprons in my instructions. I actually have to trim about 2 inches off of Dans (protytpe #1) to get it to fit conrrectly. Jason (Tim C from X Marks is wearing the kilt made for Jason, since Jason couldn't come last Friday) specifically asked for a "narrow apron" and I think his kilt is OK, but Dans is a bit too wide in the apron department. Trimmming 2 inches off should help.

    3. Notice that in some pics Dan is wearing the kilt down below his gut. That makes the over-apron longer than the rest of the kilt. I'm not willing to incorporate 'beer gut cut" instructions into this....this is supposed to be an super- easy kilt to make, not a complicated one.

    4. I'm working on "How-To's" for cargo pockets, so they'll be an option.

OK, here are pics of the two first prototypes of the X-Kilt, the contemporary box kilts that I've been working on. Our own Tim C is wearing a kilt made for someone else, so cut him a bit of slack. Still, it's pretty close to a good fit on Tim. He's the guy with the Harley t-shirt on and the baseball hat. Dan the Brewmeister at Devils Canyon Brewery is wearing prototype #1. Tim has on #2.

OK, these are canvas kilts, and I swear you gotta iron these things all the bloody time. Our very own way2fractious donated the material AND took these pictures, BTW! Thanks, mate!

Here's our own Tim C holding it up for inspection, with the lovely Damaris peeking around from behind. Box pleats!..

    ....and here's the front

ok...you hint at the "lovely damaris" yet don't have a pic of her in an Xmarks t-shirt with you guys? hmm...need to think on that a bit..

the kilts look great. Ever thought of making one of duck cloth? I know you can get decent duck over at Joan Fabrics as well as some walmarts.

IUf you get little red X's for the pics, it's because geocities has rebelled at the data transfer. I'll move 'em to another site.

Thanks, I'm reasonably happy with them. Yeah, all you get to see is Damaris from the nose upwards. Pity, she's cute, too!

I have some Navy blue cotton/poly twill for the next two, and then I'm making two more for friends and then that's IT for X-Kilts; it's up to you guys..

I'm just not a fan of the narrow aprons. To me a kilt looks better when the apron goes all the way around the front of the kilt. I don't think tartan would look good with the curl that always comes with the smaller aprons either.

It does look like you made some good kilts for your buddies.

Great looking Alan. What was the final time investment for each kilt?

Looks good, I would wear 'em (not both at the same time, that would just be silly).
