My wife and I attended the Green Lane Park Scottish and Irish Festival last Saturday. They bill this as one of the largest Scottish and Irish events in PA with 120,000 in attendance. With no admission or parking fees I have no idea where they come up with that number but it seems wildly optimistic. It's extremely family friendly with lots for the kids to do and no alcohol on the grounds.

What a great location for an event of this type. Unfortunatley, it was brutally humid and hot. I literally didn't stop sweating all day. This event is somewhat unusual in that there are more solid kilts than tartan. Amerikilts seems to own this market. Here are a few misc. pictures.

Barleyjuice was the headlining act on Saturday. Here is a pic from their early show. I am starting a thread in the Celtic music section with a video.

One of the highlights of this show are the two Loch Ness Monsters that prowl the waters of the reservoir:

Here is the event's "royal" falconer:

This event has a very large sheepdog trials. Here is one doing his thing:

And they also have a large number of various dog breed rescue operations highlighted. Irish Wolfhound anyone?

Anyone want a picture with a leprechaun?

Barleyjuice draws a pretty good crowd:

And this is why it was a good thing that I didn't find out about it until it was too late to go. I have a soft spot for rescue dogs, and Irish Wolfhounds as well. Put the two together, and I probably wouldn't have gone home alone (keep it context, guys :naughty: ).
Of course, that won't stop me from asking - do you have the link, so folks can check when next year's festival will be?

The festival web site is: http://glpsifestival.org/

Many of the Celtic festivals around here seem to have dog rescue organizations present but this event takes it to the next level. With the rescues and the sheepdog trials, there were literally dogs everywhere. And unlike a lot of other places, these dog owners actually seemed to take care of business, so to speak. You didn't need to worry about where you were stepping. As a child, I had a Siberian Husky and I had always thought of that breed as being so popular that they wouldn't need rescue organizations but there were actually 2 at this event (and huskies everywhere.)
I have included the link to the page listing vendors. Part way down the page is a listing of all the dog rescue groups that attended. http://glpsifestival.org/Vendors__Cl...d_Rescues.html
