    Hair canvas source?
I'm not sure if this is what all the kiltmakers talk about, but this site sells horsehair lining fabric, inlciding a product that is 50-50 tail hair and cotton. I ran across it and though it might be of interest. Has anyone already used them?

    Interesting!

Barb T. turned up a heavy Hymo from B. Black & Sons. I think that's the most recent recommendation for kilt canvas, but it's not "hair" canvas.

And I ordered some of it and have used it twice with great success. Excellent product and reasonably priced.

Actually, it is 'hair' canvas. I think the fiber content is 40% wool/60% goat hair. There could be more or less hair depending on the weight, but there is hair in it.

It says "Viscose/Polyester." I put it in the apron of a canvas kilt and machine washed it several times. It didn't mess up the interfacing.

If there is wool and goat hair in it, it doesn't shrink in the washer.

The link that fluter provided and I quoted goes to the Hymo page which quotes the content of 60%wool 40% hair.

I'll keep looking. I only see that for the Medium Weight Hymo, but I do see what I quoted right there at Fluter's link. Sorry if I'm missing the page you're talking about. Anyway it does hold up through several machine washes for what it's worth.

You're quite right. It's the medium weight Hymo I was looking at. Don't know how that happened. User error on my part.

No, I can see where it got mixed up, Dixiecat, no big deal. But I want to give a major warrning, do not buy medium weight Hymo for kilt interfacing like horse hair canvas. It does not behave anything like that no matter how many layers you use or pleats you use. It just doesn't have the right springyness. I tried it out because Vogue stopped carrying TP right when I needed it, and it doesn't pass the pinch test.

The heavy weight hymo, despite the fact that it isn't "hair" canvas, is terrific. The best I've seen since Tailor's Pride was discontinued. As Bugbear said, though, be sure not to get the medium weight. It just isn't heavy enough.

And if you don't like the white, Black also sells the same stuff in natural.
