I've been wearing my UK Workman quite a bit lately, not only around the house but out on the town as well. And while I find it to be a comfortable and practical garment, there's one little thing that bugs me.

When I walk, I can feel the narrow inner apron going between my legs, especially the left edge of the inner apron where it's hemmed. I'm used to traditional kilts with their wider inner aprons that stay on the fronts of my thighs (and that wrap around to my left side), not folding in between my legs. It started off as a minor annoyance, but the more I wear this UK, the more I notice it.

I realize, of course, that the narrow front aprons is part of what makes the UK different, and that it's supposed to fold down between your legs when you sit, for modesty. And I'll give it props for that: it does make sitting less of a concern. But I'm not sure I care for it when I'm walking. When I get up, I shake the apron out so it's on the fronts of my legs, but it goes right back between them when I take off walking. It feels like that left-side hemmed edge folds in at my upper thigh and wants to stay there, rubbing my thigh as I walk, instead of moving back out to the fronts of my legs where it belongs.

1. Have you noticed this on your UK as well? If so, does it bother you? Is it something I should just get used to and stop whining about?

2. Is there any quick fix to the walking issue without changing the way it drapes when I sit?

I've found a quick "hand chop" to the front apron when sitting is superior to the narrow apron.

I'm not aware of any fixes to the apron situation except to sell the UK and get a cargo style kilt with a wider apron. My PK MarPat has the wider apron that falls hits just past the center line of my quads. When walking it stays in front but when sitting it falls between the legs, preserving the mystery. PK is no longer making kilts but there are several others who do wider aprons.

Owned four UK Workman's and don't recall that feeling.

Did have problems with the modesty snap male side catching itself in cheap plastic outdoor chairs and standing up with the chair attached to my backside....embarrasing.

Freedom Kilts makes a cargo kilt with a wide apron and under apron.

I ordered a kilt from Kilt This! one of my specifications is wider front aprons. will review once they get to my name in line. Think I still have a month left on the waiting list.

I wear my UK workman on one of my jobs. I have tended to shift the centerline of the kilt a little to the left for walking any distance, then shifting center for work/sitting. This overcame the chafing of the inner apron issue for me.
As mentioned by others, the Freedom Kilt does not have this problem as the inner apron is full width, and tailored to slip between and out on its own.

Does your workman have the "Full snaps" my this i mean. 5 snaps up both sided of the front apron. I have a original that was made before that add on, and a Mocker that has it.. the mocker never slips down, but the Original always slips.. i have thought about adding a small piece of Velcro to keep the other side up where it belongs

Mine is brand-new, only had it about a month. It does indeed have 5 snaps on both sides of the apron (see pic below, although some are hidden by my belt). The issue seems to be that the inner apron's edge happens to fall on just the right place on my left leg that it wants to fold inward, not stay flat on the front of my leg. And this then causes the whole inner apron to want to curve between my legs, so I feel like I need to pick the darn thing out from between my legs while walking.

I may need to take a picture of the inner apron's edge and how it falls on my leg, with the outer apron pulled up, to illustrate the problem. I'm wondering if adding a tie or snap or some other connection on the inner apron's edge to fasten it to the outer apron would help.

I own a Survivor and a Workman, both made last year I believe. I've had no such apron problem- although unlike with the Survivor, I haven't walked very far with the Workman on- for sure I would hate to get that baby chafing on me. Anyway if I'm allowed a guess, I would suggest it may be more a question of fit than of design.

I bought one of the used Retro Red UKs. It arrived today, so I put it on and immediately went for a walk (with this thread in mind). I had no comfort problem with the inner apron (or the kilt as a whole). I could feel the apron edge hitting the front of my left leg, but would not even have been aware of it if I hadn't been alerted by this thread! BTW, I guess it's an older style "Original" with only 3 snaps on each apron side....

I wore my Workman yestersay for the first time since this post and noticed that the apron edge was rubbing against my leg, which I can't say I ever noticed before. I guess it is kind of like suddenly being aware of your tongue in your mouth.

The apron didn't bother me at all - I just noticed it. I think once the fabric softens up it won't be a problem.
