Burgandy and White Tartan
Hi ,
I have two tartan pics in Photobucket that I have been unable to identify.
1. Burgandy and white.
2. Green Red Yellow.
I have searched to no avail and would appreciate members help to name them. I particularly like the burgandy tartan and have it in my top five list of tartans to consider for a future kilt..
Thankyou,
Regards,

This one appears to be the Cunningham tartan. (Thou I will say that on my monitor the stripes bordering the white stripe appear to be blue, which is throwing me somewhat. On the Cunningham they are black. Could just be a trick of the lighting in the photo). I will also say that the Cunningham tartan is normally woven with a pretty straightforward red color, not a burgundy as you describe it. Perhaps if it were from House of Edgar in their muted colors it would look more burgundy.
Edit: I was exactly correct. House of Edgar does weave the Cunningham in their muted color scheme in a 13 oz cloth, and when they do so, they also change the black lines next to the white to blue. Here's an image off their web site.

So that is undoubtedly what this kilt is.
Here is your second image.

My first impression is that this is a fashion tartan design.
Re: Burgandy and White Tartan
As a further note on the blue lines in the Cunningham tartan above, I have some more information. The Cunningham tartan first appears in the Vestiarium Scoticum in 1842. The Sobieski Stuarts there describe the lines bordering the white as "blew."
However, in practice, most weavers have done them in black.
Here's a pic of the illustration of the Cunningham tartan from the VS.

Re: Burgandy and White Tartan
Hi Mat,
Thanks very much for your assistance. You are spot on as I super imposed the original pic and the white stripe is bordered on both sides with a blue stripe. I think the tartan would be more appealing with the white stripe only. As for pic. two I will go to tartan designer and see how it comes up there.
