So am wondering how many Sons of Erin on this board when kilted up use mainly Irish accoutrements? Im not talking about the American version either of a Guiness shirt and a green felt leprechaun hat either.:D
I dont own an argyll ,tweed or doublet of anykind, generally i wear a nice aran sweater or fishermans roll neck jumper.
I have custom hose flashes and kilt pin ribbons and generally wear buckled brogues, Albiet there is not a lot you could throw on i try to lean towards mainly irish and throw in some custom Canadian hose flashes to boot.

I often wear an Irish flat cap, as a nod to my Irish grandmother (who married my Scottish grandfather.) But that's the only accessory I wear when kilted, that one could call Irish.

I attribute my tastes in "sensible foot and head wear" to my Irish (maternal) influences and the practical Scottish monetary demands of my paternal line.

Here's a pic of me in my MacDonagh tartan. Yes, it is Irish...designed by Robert Mitchell, of Paisley, Scotland, somewhere in the mid-eighteen hundreds. Robert lived in Dublin, but not much more is know about this kilt and the name behind the design. Who might it have been made for? Lord knows!

Typically, this is what I wear for daywear. And, I've worn this kilt with a Brian Brou jacket and vest. Also, I've done it up casual.

I too often wear a flat cap, I also wear a fine vintage pin depicting my Irish family plant badge of holly, it looks great in my eyes and unless you are versed in plant badges it's just a fine kilt pin or bonnet badge.

I'm a fan of the Donegal tweed scally cap and aran sweater look. THCD is just too damn formal for me. And expensive. I also have a caubeen with an Irish Volunteers' badge.

I have a caubeen. Some may point out that the word is simply Irish for hat, but in kiltie circles it has a more specific meaning. It's basically a beret, but much wider. It is meant to be worn canted, which strictly a balmoral is not, but which Americans tend to do anyway. Also it has no toorie (the bobble on top of a balmoral) and nor are caubeens intended to have that.

One word of caution, the first one I got was an ex British Army one, and it didn't fit when ordered it in my correct size. I later discovered that they shrink them to fit, originally getting one from stores that is too big. Not many squaddies have heads as big as mine anyway, especially given that they are required to have short hair and mine is long. So, next I bought a new one, which I think was marketed at Irish pipe bands, and was a bit fancier than I would have preferred, but it does fit. [ETA: the pipe band style caubeen has a rosette, which makes me feel like I'm in a farming show!] My daughter ran off with the first one that didn't fit, and who knows what she did with it.

On another note, both the caubeens I bought are green. You can also get them in black, if you are not worried about being mistaken for the IRA!

I also have a sporran that is actually a knock-off of the expensive ones they make at L&M sporrans in Newfoundland. It is black with green trim and a badge that features a harp with a lady like a figurehead. You can tell it is fake, because she faces the wrong way, LOL! And because it was 30 bucks instead of 130. The wonders of eBay.
