Can you advise what type of shirt is worn with the Montrose doublet and where might a fellow get a hold of one? Does a wing tip shirt work? Thanks for your help!

You can wear either a collarless shirt or a T-shirt if it's hot. Traditionally,with a Montrose doublet, one wears a jabot and lace cuffs . Jabots are worn like a neck cloth, around your neck versus a tie which is worn around a collar, the cuffs are separate. Jabots and lace cuffs can be purchased from a number highland dress suppliers.

Thank you MacCathmhaoil I think I have now taken care of both issues - however all the collarless shirts still seem to have cuffs. How do cuffs work with that??

I would suggest checking the sleeves of your Montrose doublet to see if there are buttons to secure the lace cuffs to. I don't like the lace cuffs personally, bit of a nuisance really, so I generally go with the cuffs of the shirt.

My lace cuffs have a velcro closure and are sewn onto the shirt. The jabot also has a velcro closure but is not sewn onto the shirt. just don't make the mistakes I did and let the collar get too high or wear the cuffs too long. I actually needed to have the jacket cuffs shortened and the jabot sewn onto the shirt, but realised too late!
