    Kilt Belts
Am I out-of-touch or are velcro sizing on kilt belts a newer thing? All of the belts I own have the small buckle on the inside of the belt to make the adjustments as needed. Those who use the velcro adjustment, give me your thoughts as to reliability. Other products with this type of closures never really held up to wear.

I’ve never encountered velcro sizing on anything other than cheap knockoff kilt belts. I can’t imagine they would hold up well!

I don't know when it first started but the last belt I bought a few years ago had the velcro.
So far it is holding up well and there is no buckle next to the kilt to wear against it.

I have a brown pebble grain leather dirk belt with a strip of hook-and-loop fastening on the inside. The section of loops are about 12" long and the hooks (on the end of the belt) are about 2 1/2" long.

My black smooth leather finish (not patent leather) dirk belt also has hook-and-loop fastening on the inside, the loop section being 28" long (over 1/2 the length of the belt) and the hook section (on the end) being 10" long.

They both appear to be holding up well. I've had them both for over 15 years now, though I don't wear the brown one very often.

I have a bespoke elk skin kilt belt made for me about 15 years ago with hook and loop.

It has stood up very well and is very easily adjusted to wear with different weight kilt material. I wouldn't hesitate to get one if well made.

I got my first kilt in Edinburgh in 1995. When I ordered the kilt I also bought a black leather belt that has velcro adjustment. I've never had an issue with it and still use it to this day.

About 6 years ago I bought a new kilt from USA Kilts. When the kilt was ready and I picked it up, I bought a new belt, this one in brown leather. It also has velcro adjustment. And again, never had any issue with this belt, and wear it regularly.
